This project was inspired by my cat, Medli. My initial idea for this project was one much more dark and personal, but it became too upsetting, and really difficult for me to work on. As I was sitting at my desk, depressed and dejected, Medli jumped onto my lap, where my keyboard was. She started nuzzling up to me and pressing keys, messing with the code. That's when the idea to overhaul the entire game and make a new adventure starring her came to me. I wanted to give it a cute, homey feel, hence the typewriter-esque font and the picture-frame borders. Since we couldn't use pictures, I opted to use ASCII art instead. The world of ASCII art fascinated me- there were so many creative artists who made all sorts of things using letters, numbers, and symbols. ASCII art feels like a lost art too, a lot of the art that I found was created in the 90s and 2000's, and its artists had very little remaining online trails. I made a div class resembling a golden plaque to honor these artists when I credited their work, whenever I could. I even tried making my own with the scratching post. My game is kind of linear, I didn't want it to be too complex, but I also didn't want it too be too boring. There's only so much that a cat does, after all. I wanted the focus to be on the art, rather than the story. I wish I had more time to create more pages with more art, and play with more layouts. I wish I could have experimented with animation too. Shoutout to all of the artists whose ASCII art I used in this project, and my girlfriend and Medli's other parent, Kira, for being a code witch and helping me whenever I got stuck while working on this.
